From Lost to Limitless: How abilIT Helped Kimball Find His Direction

December 24, 2025

“If I could use one analogy to describe how the abilIT program impacted my life, it would be this: abilIT put me in a hallway full of doors—and all I have to do is go open them,” said abilIT graduate Kimball Elliott.

Before joining the program through Relay Resources in Oregon, Kimball was searching for direction in his life. After losing his father, he left college and the sports he loved. He tried construction, security, and restaurant work, but continued to face setbacks. “I was just coasting,” he said. “I didn’t know what my next step was going to be.”

Everything changed when Kimball learned about the abilIT program. “I’d been looking for something like this for a long time. When I saw that it was designed for neurodivergent people like me, I thought—this could actually work,” Kimball said.

From the start, he was surprised by how different the experience felt. “The classes were small and personal. The instructors really cared about helping you succeed. They didn’t force you outside your comfort zone, but they encouraged growth. It felt safe to learn.”

The program’s mix of professional development and IT training gave Kimball both practical skills and confidence. As someone who grew up playing video games and had spent a lot of time around computers, he admits he thought he knew a lot. But the abilIT program took his knowledge to the next level.

Now, Kimball has a clear vision for his future: he wants to continue growing his IT knowledge base, earn more certifications, and work his way into a cybersecurity position for the FBI.

“I used to feel aimless. Now I wake up every day knowing exactly what I want to do. The abilIT program didn’t just teach me skills—it gave me direction, confidence, and a path forward,” Kimball said. “I have zero regrets about taking this program. It’s the best thing I ever could have done. It opened so many doors for me.”
